3/18 High School vs. Moon Area; Juniors @ West Chester

The Hempfield Knightmare Rugby Club would have to do some traveling on a brisk mid-March Sunday. While the Juniors traveled to an hour and half east to West Chester to participate in a 4 team scrimmage, the High School boys would travel 2 1/2 hours 1 way to take on a division 1 team in Moon Area at Hollidaysburg.

The high school boys would start off slow, in typical Hempfield fashion, and concede an early try and conversion. After about 20 mins of playing defense, and several mistakes, the Knightmares would catch a line break from Mike Beamsderfer, which would result in a high tackle penalty. Barry Ashway, would tap and go on the ensuing penalty and score a try for the Knightmare's from about 5 meters out. Ashway would also make the conversion. The Knightmares would end the half with a penalty kick from Ashway and take the lead and momentum into the half up 10-7.

Moon Area being a very physical and talented team came right back in the second half bruising their way over the line on several picks from the back of rucks eventually scoring their second try of the day, and taking the lead 12-10. But after some back and forth play for nearly 20 mins, Ashway would once again put the Knightmares back on top with a penalty kick from 22 meters out, 13-12.

With roughly 10 mins to go in the match, the number 13 for Moon Area would execute a catch and score off a failed kick attempt by the Knightmares trying to clear their own zone, putting Moon Area up for good, 18-13.

Moon would score one more time with about 5 mins to go in the match to seal the deal.

Final Score: Moon Area 24, Hempfield Knightmare 13.

Scoring- Barry Ashway- 13 pts (1 try, 1 conversion, and 2 penalty kicks.)

The Knightmare Juniors would combine with the West Chester juniors to take on the Downingtown/Iron Lions squad and would walk away from the match victorious 42-5. Both Leif Heckaman and Colin Arndtz would score try's for the Junior Knighmares.

All in all a successful day for the Hempfield Knightmare Rugby Club!

Next Week, the High School will host Elizabethtown, in a Rugger Cup showdown; While the Juniors will travel to West Shore, to combine with West Shore United and take on Cumberland Valley.
